Side-scrolling robot combat

Scrap War

You do not kill robots here — you tear them apart. A robot does not die at zero health; it loses functions one by one until it cannot fight. And the part you tore off becomes a part of your own frame, so how you broke it decides what you get.

Who it is for

People who want the wrecking itself to be the point

What it does

  • Part destruction is the whole axis: loot, boss phases and art all hang off it
  • Salvage is fitted to your own machine, so a fight changes what you are for the next one
  • Heat matters — sustained fire costs you something
  • Scavenging happens in the field, not in a menu
  • Wave-based encounters
  • Procedural 3D with no external assets

Where it is going

The view started isometric and moved to a side-on camera. The complaint was that the controls felt impossible, and the cause turned out to be the camera: aiming at parts is the entire game, and in an isometric view a robot's head and legs sit a few pixels apart at fifteen metres. Seen from the side, that axis spreads across the whole screen.

When the axis a game is built on is not visible, the game is not hard — it is unreadable.
